Unknown error with Norton Antivirus

i got this error msg "could not start scan. scan engine returned error 0x200000058" Anyone knows what is wrong here? how do i solve my problem?

I think it's better just to ditch your pirated software and use a free antivirus like AVG from http://free.grisoft.com, NAV is a resource hog.

If you think I'm wrong in my accusations, then explain why a corporation/business would not have the means to fix a problem like this themselves or use the help of symantec support.

I've come across this error many times under medium to large companies who use NAVCE/NAVEE which purchasing a minimum of 5 licenses is not cheap. I've never seen this problem in their Home User products.

Sorry for being harsh, but you are also not the first person who asked a similar question on a board I maintain.

To fix the problem though, it's most likely just requires an update.

Actually sometimes corrupted updates cause this problem. Now since I don't use that real resource hogging monster, I don't know much about its update files. Better is to wipe it off your hard disk and re-install and then update.

Or else, the best solution is, as mastercomputers said, get AVG. Fast, simple and effective.
