nested movies and buttons in a flash web menu

question by Dan Owen | Easy

Flash MX 2004 - Mac OS10

Each web menu 'button' entry is a flash movie. The movie sub menu contains a number of flash buttons for menu traversal. Each flash button contains a flash graphic (up) and a flash movie (over). Each web menu 'button' movie is animated and opens up while the flash buttons fade in. It stops in the up position.

The rest of each web menu 'button' movie animates it closing back down while the flash buttons fade out.

My problem is finding a way to detect and control the closing of the sub menus. The sub menu buttons behave properly until I try to run the closing half of the menu movie when the cursor rolls out of the menu. There appears to be interferance between rolling over the buttons of the sub menu and the button which detects the menu rollout and starts the closing of the menu.

If anyone is willing and interested. I can provide the .fla file and support files.

Thank you,

Dan

I figured it out. There are two 'invisible' buttons (with 'Hit' state only) with fairly simple ActionScript attached. The first tests to determine whether the cursor is still inside the area of the menu. The second tests to determine when the cursor is outside the menu. Between the two of them the menu performs as expected.

Thanks for the interest!
